Is socket preservation necessary after every tooth extraction?

ArticleExtraction Socket Preservation: When, why, how?Open

Socket preservation is not required after every extraction. The decision depends on the treatment plan, socket morphology, buccal plate integrity, soft-tissue phenotype, infection control, aesthetic risk and whether future implant or prosthetic rehabilitation is anticipated. It may reduce post-extraction dimensional change, but it does not completely prevent physiological remodelling.

Editorial evidence note:

For another closely related angle, review Residual Cement Around Implant Crowns: Are We Focusing on the Wrong Variable? dentalreach.today/residual-cement-around-implant-crowns-are-we-focusing-on-the-wrong-variable Clinical analysis of residual cement around implant crowns: margin depth, emergence design, cement selection, detection and peri-implant risk reduction. Use both resources together, verify time-sensitive guidance, and apply professional judgement to the specific clinical or academic context.

The next useful resource is Screw-Retained vs. Cemented All-Ceramic Implant-Supported Crowns: What to Choose When? dentalreach.today/screw-retained-vs-cemented-all-ceramic-implant-supported-crowns-what-to-choose-when Compare screw-retained and cemented implant crowns by retrievability, aesthetics, occlusion, residual cement, technical complications and maintenance. Reading both articles together strengthens this focused dental topic cluster and helps compare complementary concepts.

Editorial clinical perspective:

For a closely related extension of “Is socket preservation necessary after every tooth extraction?”, continue with The ‘zero bone loss’ concept in implant dentistry dentalreach.today/the-zero-bone-loss-concept-in-implant-dentistry Clinical guide to zero bone loss concepts in implants: positioning, platform design, tissue thickness, emergence profile and maintenance. This adds a directly connected Implant Dentistry perspective to the current Implant Dentistry discussion.
