Facial paralysis can affect lip seal, cheek tone, speech, food clearance, drooling, oral hygiene and tolerance of dental procedures. Before treatment, confirm the diagnosis and medical evaluation, document onset and associated neurological signs, assess aspiration and eye-protection concerns, and adapt positioning, suction, isolation and preventive care. Sudden facial weakness requires urgent assessment because stroke and other serious causes must be excluded.
