World Blood Donor Day is observed on 14th June every year, disseminating awareness for blood donation to save million lives.
‘Blood donors are heroes’. This day is marked to ensure quality, safety and availability of blood for complex medical and surgical procedures. Transfusion of blood supports millions, suffering from life-threatening conditions with higher quality of life. Adequate quantity of blood service is an important component of an effective health system. Sufficient amount can be collected through regular donations by unpaid and voluntary donors. Donation highlights the fundamental laws of empathy and kindness. Initiative of donation encourages people to generate ties and care for others.
Blood transfusion motivates regular blood donors to rescue tens to thousands every day. Adequate blood supply benefits all the society with safe, sufficient and sustainable blood supplies. Donation enhances community solidarity, social cohesion and encourages people to build a caring community.
