Any good dental set-up costs a fortune to make and maintain. Mission Youth, J&K has come up with a scheme to assist unemployed dental surgeons of the state in setting up their own practice.
Setting up and running a dental clinic is not an easy task. Apart from in-depth clinical knowledge and exceptional practical skills, the financial cost of setting up a successful dental practice is beyond the scope for some. Even if one manages to establish a clinic, it is a great task to generate enough revenue to cover all fixed and running costs, and still take something home.
Mission Youth, J&K is a registered society under the Societies Registration Act,1860. It is an ambitious program launched by the government of J&K with the aim to positively engage the youth of the state through planned interventions that provide livelihood, skill development, education, counseling and rehabilitation, sports and recreation, etc. Mission Youth envisions setting up specially tailored youth centers with state of art architecture in all 20 districts of J&K.
The Dental Surgeons in Jammu Kashmir have been protesting for a long against the employment strategies of the government. The surgeons have tried every measure from peaceful protests to selling vegetables and ice-creams. Some dental surgeons to intensify their agitation had also burnt the xerox copies of their degree certificate in resentment.

In view of the protest, Mission Youth has come up with a scheme namely, Customized Livelihood Generation Scheme for Dental Professionals to address the issue of these unemployed dental surgeons. The scheme aims to provide customized financial support to dentists for setting up dental clinics.
The maximum amount of Rupees Eight Lakh (08) lakh INR shall be provided for which Mission Youth shall give the amount of 02 lakhs for each dental clinic to be set up under this scheme. The rest amount of 06 lakhs shall be financed by the bank as a Start-Up loan which shall be repayable.
The assistance will be given on a group contract basis for which dentists shall have to make a group of two doctors having qualification of BDS and above and undertake two unemployed dental technicians with qualification as prescribed by UT Dental Council. The dentists must also be registered with the UT Dental Council or Indian Dental Association as may be applicable to them.
