Natural Diamond Powder
What This Product Is
Natural diamond powder is loose, dry mined monocrystalline diamond, graded by micron and supplied by the carat. Natural diamond crystals are typically tough and blocky, and some procedures prefer them for particular finishes and cutting longevity. As a dry abrasive it is charged to cloths and laps or mixed into custom suspensions and pastes.
Intended Use in Metallography
Used for intermediate and fine polishing and lapping, it is selected when:
- A procedure specifies natural diamond
- A tough, blocky crystal is preferred for the material
- A lab charges or mixes its own diamond at a chosen concentration
Typical Applications
Commonly used for:
- General and specialty metals and alloys
- Applications where natural diamond is the established abrasive
- Charging cloths and laps; custom suspensions and pastes
- Lapping with coarser grades
Beyond metallography, natural diamond powder is also used in:
- Petrography of hard minerals
- Ceramics, glass, and optics
- Tool, die, and mold finishing
