The healthcare industry continues to evolve into a more consumer-driven model. Increasingly, today's patient chooses what procedures they have performed and/or who provide those services based on comfort. This is relevant as many medical procedures are invasive to one degree or another, causing discomfort and generating anxiety. While many options exist that will provide analgesia or sedation, one alternative with over a century of safety and effectiveness that addresses both is nitrous oxide. The dental profession has used nitrous oxide since its discovery due to its safety to the patient and administering personnel, ease of use, effectiveness, quick onset of action and recovery, amnesic properties, patient acceptance and near absence of side effects.
