Gum Disease
Gum disease covers gingivitis, in which the gingiva is inflamed but the attachment is intact, and periodontitis, in which the supporting bone and periodontal ligament are progressively lost. It is diagnosed by probing depths, bleeding on probing, recession and radiographic bone levels. Treatment begins with plaque control and non-surgical debridement, with surgical or regenerative procedures where sites do not respond.
