Missing Teeth
Missing teeth — partial or complete edentulism — follow decay, periodontal disease, trauma, or a tooth that never formed. Beyond appearance and chewing, a gap lets the adjacent teeth drift and the opposing tooth over-erupt, and the alveolar bone that held the root resorbs over the years that follow. Replacement options are a removable denture, a fixed bridge carried by the neighbouring teeth, or an implant-supported crown or bridge. Which is appropriate depends on how many teeth are absent, the state of the remaining dentition, and the bone available.
