Periapical Disease

Periapical disease is inflammation of the tissue around the tip of a tooth root, usually following pulp necrosis. It presents as periapical periodontitis, an abscess, or a radiolucent lesion found on a radiograph, and is diagnosed from symptoms, pulp testing and imaging. Management addresses the source in the root canal system, by endodontic treatment or by extraction.
