To avoid impersonation in examinations, the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) will soon seize the facial features of college students on camera.
The technique may be used at some point of admissions to first-year undergraduate and postgraduate at the college level. University authorities said colleges will must test students' faces for “recognition” and for further identification at the college. RGUHS Vice-Chancellor Dr Sachidanand said, “This is mainly to keep away from malpractices like impersonation all through examinations.” He delivered that the 'Face ID' might be Aadhaar-based, leaving no room for impersonation.
Dr. Sachidananda stated that the university has round 2.5 lakh college students for MBBS, BDS, and allied health science courses. Examinations are conducted in around 230 centres.
The vice-chancellor said that even as all examination centres will have cameras. The college is yet to glide tenders for the project.
University authorities said that the move would help them to a great extent. “Although the photo of the student is printed on the hall ticket, students change their hair style and sometimes look different from the photo they have pasted on the admission ticket. This makes it hard for us to verify if the candidate is the same character because the one inside the photo,” said an official.
Some students, are cautious of the move. “Capturing our facial capabilities is an invasion of privacy. We also fear that the university won't be able to shield our statistics in a stable manner,” stated by a MBBS student of a city-based medical college.
How does it work?
RGUHS exam centres are already geared up with CCTVs. The moment a student enters the exam corridor, the CCTV will capture his/her picture. The captured picture could be in comparison with Face ID in the college. If there may be an image mismatch, such candidates will be considered as impersonators.
